“Things happen, that’s all they ever do.” –Dawes
I’m different, and that’s okay. In fact, it’s more than okay. It’s perfect.
Since I was a teenager, Brian Wilson’s line, “I just wasn’t made for these times,” always resonated with me.
When I’m in a stretch that feels like the world is one way, but I am built another, I just need to let go. Just because I can’t change the way other people act or think doesn’t mean I should detach to the point where I am ghosting the universe.
That seems to be the default I need to work against.
Instead of shutting down, put in the effort to water the seeds that make me grow. Learn something new. Become one with nature. Kill technology and all of the outside noise and focus on what matters: equanimity.
And when I inevitably catch myself, don’t beat myself up that I didn’t catch myself earlier. The present moment is everything. Go with that.
