The benefits of listening to music are manifold.
Whether you are looking to help soothe anxiety, lull yourself to sleep, or increase your concentration, there is a playlist for everything.
Of course, what should be on that playlist is purely subjective.
Here are a few of the artists and tracks that help restore my equanimity. I keep them accessible at all times.
Explosions in the Sky. The rock band’s instrumental tracks envelop me in emotion. Deep shit. I’ve always said that when the time comes to spread my ashes somewhere beautiful, “Your Hand in Mine” (or”First Breath After Coma”) should be playing.
Marconi Union. Perfect for meditation, I choose MU when I am looking to achieve a trance-like state. Start with “Weightless.”
If These Trees Could Talk. The band name says it all. If nature had a soundtrack to tell its story, this would be it.
Zen Meditation. Random mix of songs to help me sleep or take off the edge.
I am also a big believer in comfort music. This is a compilation of songs that make you feel warm and fuzzy every time you hear them.
Sorta like a home cooked meal from mom!
You should know these songs inside and out. They are often from a happy time in your life. And you’ll often find yourself singing them aloud.
These types of tracks can help ground you when unexpected circumstances attempt to challenge your balance.
